Is it Time to Retune your TV?

FiftyUp Club My television has been broken for about three months now, or so I thought.  Every time I switched it on, nothing… no signal, no channels.

My colleagues here at the FiftyUp Club have heard my constant whinging about it.

It wasn’t until the roll-out of digital-only TV came up that someone jokingly pointed out that might be what’s wrong with my ‘broken’ television.

A quick Google search later, I landed on this message – “If you’re missing any TV channels, you might need to retune your television.” Uh oh.

Australia is Retuning – what does it mean?

Since May last year the Government has been rolling out the final step in Australia’s move to digital-only TV, due to be completed by the end of this year.

The retune will affect households on different dates depending on where you live. For example, our friends in Perth switched over in May last year, the Sunshine Coast will need to retune from 9th July this year whereas residents in Gosford don’t need to worry about retuning until 17Th September.

You can find out your area’s retune date at the Government’s ‘Stay tuned for the retune’ website: http://retune.digitalready.gov.au. Use the ‘Get retune info’ box at the top of the page to find out your retune date.

So how does this affect you?

As the name suggests, you will need to retune your digital TV on or after your retune date. Retuning is done using your TV’s remote. The website has a really useful video and three step guide that runs you through how to retune your television. You can Click Here to watch the video and read the instructions.

Back to my broken TV. It turns out my re-tune date was back in March, right about when my television stopped working. While my colleagues think it’s funny, I only see the good news – my TV isn’t broken after all.
