7 Myths about Switching Electricity

When it comes to switching electricity there’s a lot of rubbish out there. We’ve separated fact from fiction to make sure you don’t fall victim to these common myths about switching electricity.

firstMYTH #1: It’s not worth it

FACT: Some households can save hundreds of dollars a year by switching to a more competitive offer.

 

 

MYTH #2: It’s too confusing

FACT: We try to do some of the work for you by analysing the offers and building a savings calculator that compares most electricity plans.

thirdMYTH #3: Some retailers’ electricity is better than others
FACT: No matter who you buy your electricity from, it’s the same electricity. Retailers compete on price, billing and customer service.

 

 

MYTH #4: Your power supply will be cut off
FACT: Once you’re switched, it is a seamless process with no interruption to your supply. You won’t be caught without power.

fifth-2MYTH #5: I can’t switch because I’m on a fixed term contract
FACT: You can still leave your contract before the end date. Some (though not all) energy suppliers will charge you a leaving fee, you should check about any exit or cancellation fees from your current provider. But with a big discount, you could still be better off switching.

 

MYTH #6: I’ll be charged twice for my energy during the handover period
FACT: You will never be double charged for your energy. Your new supplier will arrange a “go live” date with your old supplier, at which point the billing will change hands. The ‘switch’ can take up to two months to occur.

secondMYTH #7: It takes too long
FACT: It only takes a few minutes to switch online. From, there your new provider will organise the switch with your current provider.  77% of previous members found it easy to switch online.
