Majority of Over-50s support Daylight Saving in Queensland

Almost two thirds of older Australians believe Queensland should adopt daylight saving according to a recent poll of more than 1000 Australians aged 50 and older.

54% of older Australians say daylight saving is better for business, tourism, health and leisure, according to the FiftyUp Club Member Poll.

The results also reveal:

  • 8% are in favour of the move, but for south-east Queensland only
  • 18% said no the debate is over because the state has already voted against it, and
  • 2% said no because it’s unfair on farmers

Chairman of the FiftyUp Club John Mangos said the daylight saving debate was far from over.

The Daylight saving debate is one of Australia’s greatest BBQ stoppers.

On one hand you can see why businesses in South East Queensland are in favour of daylight saving. On the other hand you can see why the farmers in the north don’t want it.”

The FiftyUp Club is a consumer network for Australians aged 50 and Over with more than 100,000 members in NSW, Queensland and Victoria.

The Club lobbies on behalf of its members with businesses and governments, helping to create special offers and policy outcomes for the over-50s.

There is a better solution that satisfies all requirements. Advance AEST by 30 minutes - PERMANENTLY! Abolish DST on the Eastern Seaboard PERMANENTLY! Retain only 3 time zones across all of Australia - PERMANENTLY!! Perth To Brisbane is 38 degrees Longitude. That is the equivalent of 2.5 hours in any language. Let's fix our clocks and remove the 6 monthly circus and confusion of advancing and retarding them. If DST is so good for us why do we restrict the 60 minute adjustment to only 6 months a year. Let's have a 30 minute permanent adjustment. It's what is best for the National Economy as well and removes cross-border confusion. Call me. GB 0427 423 427 - I have done the homework.

from the results I think that the facts are being distorted 8% favour for south east queensland is totally different from what% of south east queenslanders are in favour. for business commuting tourism leisure and be on same timeframe as New South Wales and Victoria is a no brainer.

Daylight saving has too many advantages to list here, it will come sooner or later, hopefully sooner Peter

Although in the past I thought Daylight saving was just not practical or suitable for us (QLD), I have had to accept the fact that it is more realistic, particularly her on the Gold Coast, for tourism, business, everyday practicality and commonsense!!!

Its only natural to wake earlier during the summer months so why not start earlier. With cross boarder business and personal relationships being part of the norm now its ridiculous that we are not on the same time line as NSW. Put it to the Vote.

Clive, the results ALSO reveal that ONLY 8% favour Daylight Saving ONLY down in South-East QLD, meaning the majority want it in MORE QLD regions, NOT only in South-East QLD alone.

Where did you get this "majority" figure from? I think your analysis is flawed if only 8% are in favour of the move!
