There's just so much to offer at the 2016 Blues on Broadbeach - Three Kings, Blue Shaddy and the Gold Coast's music scene's favourite son, Mason Rack Band.
I'm looking forward to seeing Back in Blue, a show dedicated to AC/DC in support of Beyond Blue. If any of you have ever seen an 8 Ball Aitken performance, you'll be as intrigued as I am to see what he does with Back in Blue, along with a host of awesome artists including the fantastic Shaun Kirk.
This festival is throughout Broadbeach. Clubs, restaurants and cafes host artist performances starting around midday each day and running long into the night. Beaches, the mall and parks also host the artists playing all afternoon. For details of when and where each artist is playing, see the website or download the app to be regularly updated.
We like to spend one of the days at Victoria Park on a picnic rug with our daughter listening to a host of artists on the main stage well into the evening. Other days we check out the midday performances in the Broadbeach Mall, then wander over to one of the cafes with a singer performing for a coffee and finish off our day in one of the clubs who have the blues artists playing well into late evening.
There's nothing better than an afternoon in the cool autumn weather listening to music in the park. The restaurants are all scattered throughout the area, making it easy to grab dinner and a glass of wine and sit nearby an artist performing. As a lot of this festival is outdoors and free, it's very family friendly.
The performances are all first class, well known artists throughout the Gold Coast music scene, and the headliners obviously don't need any introduction. Diesel is one of Australia's favourite singers and guitarists, and the addition of Eric Burdon and The Animals this year brings a real bluesy old school feel that you won't catch anywhere else. Don't miss Eric Burdon's performance, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Why? A fantastic weekend of music and good food

TAS: TASMANIA could become the dairy sheep capital of Australia, giving dairy cow farmers another revenue stream as they battle savage cuts in the milk price.
Diane Rae, who runs Tasmania’s only sheep milk dairy and cheesery, Grandvewe, at Birchs Bay south of Hobart, said dairy farmers could have a big lift in returns with sheep milk.
“Cow dairy farmers are now receiving about $5 a kilogram for milk solids for their milk. If they were to convert to milking sheep they would be paid a minimum of $30 a kilogram for milk solids,” Ms Rae said.
“At this price there is a much healthier profit for them and still enough for a cheesery like us to value add and be profitable.”
Ms Rae, who runs Grandvewe Cheeses with daughter Nicole and son Ryan, is urging the dairy industry to start the conversation about alternative revenue streams.
She said there was not a big change in infrastructure to milk sheep.
“My sheep dairy and machinery came from an old cow dairy. Retrofitting a cow dairy to a sheep dairy is inexpensive and most of the infrastructure is already there,” she said.
“Tasmania is in a fabulous position to become the dairy sheep capital of Australia.” Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association chief executive Peter Skillern said the idea had merit. “In the current climate the industry is looking at alternatives to reduce costs and increase revenue, and this suggestion falls into that category,” Mr Skillern said.
