HALF OF ALL OVER-FIFTIES SEE AGE DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT AS BIGGEST PAINPOINT

A poll taken by Australians aged over-50 has found that when it comes to age discrimination, over 51% believe employment is the major area of concern.

This comes in the wake of Bill Shorten’s vow to bring “a real jobs plan” to focus on employment for older Australians, by incentivising businesses to employ over 55s.

The poll of members of the FiftyUp Club was run in relation to age discrimination and asked the members what was important to them.

The poll of 340 FiftyUps found that:

  • 34% believe Business needs to be offered more of an incentive to employ over 50's

  • 17% believed there needs to be more training for over 50's to help them up skill for the future

FiftyUp Club Campaigner Kayley Harris today commented on the findings:

“Employment issues are featuring heavily in the current federal election campaign from both sides of politics. Helping older Australians back into the market has to be a priority.

“With the aging population, comes the reality for a longer retirement. For many older Australians re-entry into the work force is a necessity.

“It comes as no surprise that over 50% of FiftyUps want more incentives for business, or more skills training for FiftyUps, to ensure older Australians can access meaningful, well paid, employment.

It’s great to see both sides of politics begin to address this issue. However, I would love to see more highly targeted, specific policies that are going to help FiftyUps achieve this.”

The FiftyUp Club has over 190,000 members and uses their combined buying power to unlock special offers and lobby on their behalf. It’s free to join at www.FiftyUpClub.Com.au.

NB to editors & producers: Details of case study over-Fifties who are looking to re-enter the work force are available for media outlets.
