USE YOUR PHONE LIKE A SWISS-ARMY KNIFE
Gone are the days when mobile phones were just for calling people and the occasional text. Now we can use maps to help guide us through unfamiliar areas, look up public transport routes and schedules in real-time, take photos while we are on holidays and more.
To many of us, they have almost become an extension of ourselves - not that we’d ever admit it, of course!
One of the most clever things that can be done with a phone is to use it as a personal Wi-Fi hotspot. This means that you can use the data associated with your mobile phone plan (eg. your 3G/4G connection) and use it to give your other devices, like your laptop or iPad, a portable internet connection.
If you work on the road or travel a lot, you may have used one of those USB data sticks to give you similar internet access in the past. There are a few advantages to using your mobile phone instead, such as having to carry fewer devices around with you and being able to consolidate your data costs into a single bill.
For some of the most popular phones on the market, we have compiled a short list of tutorials which you can find at the end of the article.
One thing to remember is that you need to make sure you are on a phone plan with a data limit high enough to fill your needs. You will also need to check that your device itself has the capability to act as a mobile hotspot. If you aren’t certain, you should talk to your provider and ask them to clarify the capabilities of your device and your plan.
What if you don’t have enough data in your current plan? Well, don’t worry - we have negotiated a new deal on mobile phone plans that could be just right for you!
