Top 3 Cars for FiftyUps

It might have been cool to have a Nissan Skyline or Mazda mx3 when you were single but as you get older, chances are you're looking for something different in a new car. Joel Helmes is the Editor of Behind The Wheel and he has shared his Top 3 Cars for Fiftyups!

Joel has gone for a micro car, small car and a mid-size car…

Mitsubishi Mirage

The Mirage is about as basic as cars come in 2016. The Mitsubishi micro-car offers better than reasonable access, decent legroom and height-adjustable driver’s seat, all while also being able to be parked in the smallest of spots. It has a full five-star ANCAP safety rating and when it comes to technology, the base model offering comes with little more than a CD player and AM/FM stereo! The Mitsubishi Mirage is priced from just $11,990, add an extra $2,000 for an auto transmission.

Mitsubishi Lancer

The Lancer has been around for about a decade in its current form and that means it is anything but cutting-edge. Simple controls, a very basic dashboard and centre console design and easy to understand infotainment system make Mitsubishi’s small sedan/hatch model an attractive proposition. The base model offering comes standard with a reverse camera and height-adjustable driver’s seat.

It is also a very easy car to drive, it comes with a full five-star ANCAP safety rating and prices start from just $19,500 manual and $20,500 auto.

Kia Optima

Kia’s mid-size sedan is a good looking car that is easy to drive and particularly roomy inside. Easy to get in and out of and with a relatively simple dashboard layout, it’s about as basic as it gets with a medium-sized car. Kia/Hyundai also offers a very basic and easy to use infotainment system and standard features include height-adjustable driver’s seat, tilt and reach steering adjust, electric park brake, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera and sat-nav.

It also comes with a forward collision mitigation system that will apply the brakes automatically for you if it detects a crash is imminent.

Let us know what car you have and why you chose it - feedback below! See more of Joel's tips here

Yeah well, I really don't need anybody telling me what car I should drive! Incidentially, I have a Kia Cerato and am very happy with it.
