WESTERN AUSTRALIA – Animals at War Commemorated (What’s On Only)

The Open Day at ANZAC Cottage on October 9, will feature a talk presented by the Friends of ANZAC Cottage dedicated to the animals that supported, comforted and aided our servicemen and women during war times.

The Cottage will open from 1.00pm to4.00pm with the talk scheduled for 1:30pm and repeated at 2:45pm, telling some of the many stories about these brave animals of all types, that served faithfully alongside their masters during the conflicts.

You may never again step on a slug when you learn about their life-saving actions in the trenches. Bees, glow-worms, kangaroos, dogs, cats, mice, camels and dolphins are but a few of the varied creatures of the animal world that contributed in unusual and amazing ways to the war effort.

If any dog deserves a film made of his life, it is Horrie the Wog Dog. Hear about his life of bravery, intrigue, shipwreck, wounding, smuggling and his eventual fate, the stuff of legend. Let us not forget Stubby, a veteran of 17 battles, also wounded in action and among other acts of bravery, found and comforted the wounded.
