Which state set the record for the most expensive electricity?

Can you guess which state set the record for the highest wholesale electricity prices this January AND February?

QUEENSLAND has taken out the title after wholesale electricity prices broke record highs, even beating the troubled South-Australian network!

Figures from the AEMO revealed the average wholesale price for electricity in January was $198 a megawatt hour. This compares to South Australia's average of $84 a megawatt hour and Victoria's $62.

An AEMO spokesman said a combination of high temperatures and increased gas prices contributed to higher prices, but with three wholesale power price surges in the space of two months, the jump has prompted an investigation by the AER.

55-year-old Greg McIlroy was fed up with the relentless increases to his power bill and decided to join the FiftyUp Club to lower his bill costs. Watch his story below:

If I leave a question here, will anyone answer? E.g "Anonymous" from Vic (on 25 February 2017 at 5:05pm) asked whether the electricity offer was still available - I have the same question - but does anyone who could provide an answer see this comment?

How can qld be so far above other states listed above article? Why is this so wide a difference? Its rediculous. Lets stand up and fight them. Keep jumping from one as a group to the other every few months, I bet if we did that as a group, they would sit up and listen, as their profits would just be going up and down like a yo yo, if 250 thousand people left as a bunch due to these price hikes, and then the next company Im sure they would have to sit up and do something. I know it sounds weird but im sure it would work. If they knew that this group will just get up and leave then, they would do everything to keep them. Same with woolies, coles etc. If every week people as a group stopped going to coles one week and then stop and go to woolies the next week and then aldi the week after. The supermarkets would have a fit and then streamline all prices around the country to get true loyalty back. At the moment its just a farce.
