Five reasons why you should switch regularly

1. You might not be getting any discount.

Amazingly, about 1 in 4 households around Australia are getting NO discount because they have never switched. For an average home, this could mean you're paying $500 more than your next door neighbour for the same power, just because you're on a rubbish plan.

2. Already switched a couple of years ago? See Point 1.

Even if you THINK you’re getting a good discount, if you haven’t switched in a couple of years, it may have expired. So do check. The business model of most suppliers is to give you a Honeymoon Discount for the first year or two, then cut it back and hope that you stay. If you’re a regular switcher, Honeymoon deals are fine. But if you want to stay put for a while, look for an "evergreen" or "ongoing" Discount.

3. You could save hundreds of dollars in less than five minutes.

The gap between the best and worst offers is big and getting bigger.

4. Only switchers get the very best offers.

Most providers have their best offers, and then their "really best" offers, which their "Retention Team" is allowed to give to people who have one foot out the door. So you must be prepared to move to get really cheap Electricity deals. If not, they'll take you for granted.

5. It's easy!

You can fill out an online switching form in under 5 minutes. Then you just wait for your meter to be read and hey presto - you're switched. They're all selling the same electricity and it's one of the simplest products to switch, so don't be afraid.

There's also plenty of help out there from government comparison websites and group-buying clubs like FiftyUp Club, which uses the buying power of 250,000+ members to unlock special offers for you.

No choice, no money in the issue

Hi Ron, we have been very vocal on this issue in the past but with little effect unfortunately. The QLD government needs to open up the markets in your state to other competitors as has happened in Victoria and NSW.
