Meet the oldest Air Ambulance Nurse in Australia

Maureen Roberts has many career highlights to share from her 32 years as Australia’s longest serving air ambulance nurse.

In a recent interview on Macquarie Media, Maureen told the story of the pilot of her aircraft passing out at the controls and how she calmly popped his oxygen mask on and brought him around enough to land the plane. And you thought your job had challenges!

Maureen began her career in the Riverina and became interested in the Air Ambulance are speaking to a fellow nurse from the service. She started her career in Albury but is now based at Mascot, near Sydney.

Another memorable moment of her career involved a premature baby in the skies over the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Air Ambulance needed to land but a FA18 Hornet on “critical fuel” took precedence. Maureen remembers saying to the Air Ambulance pilot “the fighter pilot can eject if he needs to but we can’t, we need to land”!

One of the wonderful things about her job, Maureen told us, is that every day is a different experience depending on the patients you're transporting.

“Sometimes you're taking people home to die and they know they're going to die and they have the most amazing conversations with you."

having been guilty of a traffic offence loosing demerit points the fine seems to be out of proportion if you compare the pension to the average wage earner its a double blow.

I would like to see the cost of pet food drop by at least 30% with vet fee's also dropped by at least 50% and be regulated by a governing body, and only rise with the CPI. After all, majority in our age bracket have pets, or companion animals, we seem to be targeted by greedy vets and pet food manufactures, including the major supermarkets.

Something for those who do not own a car, home, or things of value to insure, and are hard pressed to afford a trip on the Manly ferry so certainly are not looking for discounts on holidays priced $800 to $5000. or on trips to hairdressers we can not afford to attend even with a HUGE 10% discount.I have a saying that might just mean something to those who are truly struggling as opposed.every to those who are reasonably well off but want more. 'Not every body is as rich as I wish to be'.

A wider range of discounts targeted towards over 50s only. Bigger discounts for loyalty, rewards for paying on time.

Ideally, gain the recognition within the management ranks of the banking sector that self funded retirees form a major portion of their source of funds. These funds require a greater variety of investment options with less interest income pressure.

Certainly would be of use to those who are truly doing it tough, and goes beyond just helping those who are. wanting a cheaper holiday or discounts on car insurance.

We are struggling to pay bills and want a fair go, if we could get discounts on insurance and electricity it would be great start.
