Meet the oldest Air Ambulance Nurse in Australia

Maureen Roberts has many career highlights to share from her 32 years as Australia’s longest serving air ambulance nurse.

In a recent interview on Macquarie Media, Maureen told the story of the pilot of her aircraft passing out at the controls and how she calmly popped his oxygen mask on and brought him around enough to land the plane. And you thought your job had challenges!

Maureen began her career in the Riverina and became interested in the Air Ambulance are speaking to a fellow nurse from the service. She started her career in Albury but is now based at Mascot, near Sydney.

Another memorable moment of her career involved a premature baby in the skies over the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Air Ambulance needed to land but a FA18 Hornet on “critical fuel” took precedence. Maureen remembers saying to the Air Ambulance pilot “the fighter pilot can eject if he needs to but we can’t, we need to land”!

One of the wonderful things about her job, Maureen told us, is that every day is a different experience depending on the patients you're transporting.

“Sometimes you're taking people home to die and they know they're going to die and they have the most amazing conversations with you."

Anita from NSW: I would like councils to charge for and provide services they are required to, and not ruin various urban areas, then hope they can steal from established ratepayers who have lived in the area for ages. Improvements in public transport (was better 30 years ago in Sydney).

We are told its a user pays system, then we are charged access or availability charges. What if Woolies sent us a bill to have access to their shop??

At my age (57) I still get a huge enjoyment out of riding my motorcycle. Just don't uderstand why I have to pay the same tolls as the cars. Also the greenslips are way to high for motorbikes.

Hallo to all you over 50's around this great country of ours. Lets hope we can achieve some improvements in life, whatever we need, by getting together in numbers. We will make a formidable group for corporate business to take note of. Ignore us at your peril!!! from Jan in WA

Jan: Yes, a formidable group! This is what I believe The Seniors Party is also trying to achieve by firstly getting representation in Canberra and secondly: once there start putting through policies to assist us "the forgotten group". They are worthwhile checking.

More discounts for seniors.

Henry
Henry from NSW replied to pamela:

Pamela: this club will get the discounts, because they already have the numbers and numbers speak loud and clear to the business fraternity. What we need now is to get representation in Canberra, something it has never happened and is badly needed. I discovered The Seniors Party (www.seniorsparty.org) by sheer luck and reading through their Declaration of Intentions convinced me is the party to join.

I do have car insurance, 3rd. party property cover for each of the 2 cars we own. Both are low mileage but over 10 years old & have very low resale value. your form rejected the premium I nominated as invalid, so I said we have no cover

I hope the Fifty Up Club will bring bigger discounts and benefits for seniors.

Henry
Henry from NSW replied to Beverley:

Beverley: It probably will, it already has the numbers. I joined The Seniors Party (www.seniorsparty.org) with the idea of being represented in Canberra where laws are made to have a say about my current and future situation.
