Meet the oldest Air Ambulance Nurse in Australia

Maureen Roberts has many career highlights to share from her 32 years as Australia’s longest serving air ambulance nurse.

In a recent interview on Macquarie Media, Maureen told the story of the pilot of her aircraft passing out at the controls and how she calmly popped his oxygen mask on and brought him around enough to land the plane. And you thought your job had challenges!

Maureen began her career in the Riverina and became interested in the Air Ambulance are speaking to a fellow nurse from the service. She started her career in Albury but is now based at Mascot, near Sydney.

Another memorable moment of her career involved a premature baby in the skies over the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Air Ambulance needed to land but a FA18 Hornet on “critical fuel” took precedence. Maureen remembers saying to the Air Ambulance pilot “the fighter pilot can eject if he needs to but we can’t, we need to land”!

One of the wonderful things about her job, Maureen told us, is that every day is a different experience depending on the patients you're transporting.

“Sometimes you're taking people home to die and they know they're going to die and they have the most amazing conversations with you."

Paying taxes 30-40 thousand dollars every year it would be nice if half goes to our super instead of the govt wasting it sadly the govt still wants more tax off us at end of every financial year

Any help for carers at all. With major illness and major disabilities, expenses blow out and leave us with nothing to survive on at all. Old age pensions get access to some help, genuine disability pensions get no pensioner discounts at all.... No rest, no respite, no help and no way to keep afloat. Despite working 3 jobs my entire life, there is no support for my category at all.

I would like to get information on super funds that definitely don't charge commission or ongoing fees for our hard earned savings. I have experienced too many cases of so called "fund managers" who get paid from our super savings, and have been told that this is because they too need to be paid for their hard work! So our super goes up two rungs of the ladder, BUT falls down THREE steps of the ladder. Can anybody help??

Would love to be able to buy a new car without the sales(person)man baffling me with numerous calculations which always make the car more expensive. Tired of the B S. Tired of being treated like an idiot - usually by sales people twenty or thirty years my junior. Gerard.

I should like to see discounts offered for products in preference to rewards points, as it always seems that the goalposts are always shifting with points systems

The joke about rewards points is that they always cost more than they deliver. For example a credit card with no rewards usually has no annual fee, whereas a credit card with rewards may charge from $60 - $200 annual fee. the rewards aren't worth an ounce of chook manure.
