Maureen Roberts has many career highlights to share from her 32 years as Australia’s longest serving air ambulance nurse.

In a recent interview on Macquarie Media, Maureen told the story of the pilot of her aircraft passing out at the controls and how she calmly popped his oxygen mask on and brought him around enough to land the plane. And you thought your job had challenges!

Maureen began her career in the Riverina and became interested in the Air Ambulance are speaking to a fellow nurse from the service. She started her career in Albury but is now based at Mascot, near Sydney.

Another memorable moment of her career involved a premature baby in the skies over the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Air Ambulance needed to land but a FA18 Hornet on “critical fuel” took precedence. Maureen remembers saying to the Air Ambulance pilot “the fighter pilot can eject if he needs to but we can’t, we need to land”!

One of the wonderful things about her job, Maureen told us, is that every day is a different experience depending on the patients you're transporting.

“Sometimes you're taking people home to die and they know they're going to die and they have the most amazing conversations with you."

Motor vehicle Insurance reduction - truth in advertising by insurance companies - paid my premiums for over 8 years - first time ever making a claim with APIA for contents insurance, told that i needed to have receipts and photographs of EVERY possession you have even that washing machine you bought 10 years ago, or dinnerware or crystal glasses you were given as wedding presents 25 years ago or more.......if you dont have photos and receipts....too bad. Apia does not provide the service it promises in their advertising, especially for over 50's.

Here here, the only people getting rich in this Country are Banks, Insurance Companies, Petrol Companies, Woolies & COles and the waste of space Pollies!!!!

The more people who join the Fifty'sUp Club the bigger a bargining power will be. As a tax payer for over 50 years I feel that we need special consideration when we purchase groceies, petrol, car & house insurance and medical needs. After all it's people over 50 that have given this country the high standard of living that we at times are denied be over 50

Discounts on insurance, energy, to name some but general price discounts for the cost of living in this country.

Once people are retired and are self funded they should not have to pay any tax on investment income up to $40,000 any thing above that should be taxable at the lowest rate. The amount of money self funded retirees save the tax payer in pension payments is huge. It would certainly encourage more people to be self funded and not be a drain on the public purse as we all age. We really need to tell Government how much they can save by not needing to pay pensions if we all get good incentives to be self funded. Stop the tax rip offs on self funded retirees and super Annuation investments if they are really serious and genuinely concerned about the costs of pensions in future years.

I'm hoping we can band together and put pressure on supermarkets and insurance companies. Having paid regularly and having maybe one or two low claims in 35 years, we should have better discounts.

With the strength of numbers, I hope we can put pressure on insurance companies, energy authorities and governments to give older Australians a better deal. We've paid our taxes and built this country and have earned the right for a better deal, as we get older.
