Meet the oldest Air Ambulance Nurse in Australia

Maureen Roberts has many career highlights to share from her 32 years as Australia’s longest serving air ambulance nurse.

In a recent interview on Macquarie Media, Maureen told the story of the pilot of her aircraft passing out at the controls and how she calmly popped his oxygen mask on and brought him around enough to land the plane. And you thought your job had challenges!

Maureen began her career in the Riverina and became interested in the Air Ambulance are speaking to a fellow nurse from the service. She started her career in Albury but is now based at Mascot, near Sydney.

Another memorable moment of her career involved a premature baby in the skies over the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Air Ambulance needed to land but a FA18 Hornet on “critical fuel” took precedence. Maureen remembers saying to the Air Ambulance pilot “the fighter pilot can eject if he needs to but we can’t, we need to land”!

One of the wonderful things about her job, Maureen told us, is that every day is a different experience depending on the patients you're transporting.

“Sometimes you're taking people home to die and they know they're going to die and they have the most amazing conversations with you."

Is this guy for real? Another idiot who wants to play in someone else's patch. These people just don't seem to get it. The only way you will get people to invest in their own retirement is to provide a stable set of parameters for them to plan for the future. The more unstable the playing field the more people will say "stuff it!!" Its about time the over 55 voters of this country started exercising their "numerical" muscle in the political arena.

The main point missing in this suggestion is that the family home for most people is not an income producing asset therefore if you are on a fixed income you have no way of increasing your disposable income.

does this mean the poor farmer gets hit with this as well their homesteads are part of their properties, so working hard all our lives to pay off ours home means nothing

Tony, another money saving suggestion. Stop with a big S, paying for the Past Prime Ministers alive and past, there spouse entitlements, Gold Card for Travelling, and the list goes on, why should we pay , for , Malcolm Fraser, Bob Hawk, Paul Keating, John Howard, Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd, and possibly others and their Spouses. Only allow Politicians one trip overseas, with a limit if spending, say $ 20,000 Tony the balls in your court.

These people should have their millions taken away from them and let them live a life of a normal person. I am also confident that a Labor Government wold not even consider such a ludicrous idea

Peter
Peter from NSW replied to Ray:

It was the labor government which got us into this financial mess.

How quickly we forget the little thing called the GFC.

Try it. I would give my vote to the Greens if they did this. And I hate them with a deep fuming hatred so that would say something. Sorry but paying tax all your life should qualify every Australian for the pension no matter what they have, or earn. Anything less is stealing from the old.

Tony shepherd, who is he,does he live on the pension. No, myself a loyal liberal, tony if Mr Abbott wants to commit Political suicide , listen to you. If your so correct i suggest every GM and or Manager Director, donate $50,000 per year if they earn above $500,000 per year before tax. Hey Tony have a look at this suggestion.

Mr Shepherd would be better off putting that thought in the waste bin. The average home owner has scraped and saved through their working life to not have to rely on Govt. Housing for a roof over their head. A fantastic vote loser for any Govt. silly enough to enact such a thought.

Ivan from NSW commented:

i don't believe any Govt would be so foolish, surely the House would vote to block it ... but , if they do get away with it ,don't panic ,just wait til the next election and the new Govt will repeal it ...
