Big new Group Discounts are just around the corner!

More than 20,000 of you have now joined our Power Up & Save Campaign and the good news is, we are getting VERY close to releasing big new Group Discounts on Electricity & Gas for Australian homes and small businesses.

Watch this space in the days to come and keep an eye on your inbox, then  be sure to make the most of this opportunity. As our survey of over 13,000 Australians has found, those who switch get bigger discounts than those who don’t.

When surveyed, our members were asked what discount they receive:

  • Those who have switched are on average receiving an 11% discount, while

  • Those who have not switched are on average receiving a 6% discount.

  • Meanwhile, there are currently market discounts of up to 30% in some states!

This week, Malcolm Turnbull met with Australia's electricity chiefs following an audit that revealed more than one million households are paying highest price rates.

They’ve been asked to explain why a million Australians are still paying the highest rates. We reported about this issue from Martin Place, this morning.

The Power Up & Save Campaign aims to use the huge buying power of a combined 30,000 registrants to coerce energy retailers to go beyond their on market offers with new ones.

This special offer will be offered to registrants to switch to or use as negotiating leverage.

Power Up & Save campaign director, Christopher Zinn today commented on the survey;

“The fact people who have switched before are receiving discounts nearly twice as big as those who haven’t comes as very little surprise to me.

“Generally the rule with competitive markets, is if you don’t ask, then you don’t receive.

“This campaign gives people that opportunity. By joining, they’re throwing their hat in the ring and asking for more. I would encourage anyone to join”.

It’s free to join at www.FiftyUpClub.Com.au.

Alinta's usage charges are very close to the Origin rates, but Alinta's daily supply charge is 181.32 c/day compared with Origin's daily supply charge of 141.01 c/day (& 13.5 c/day for off peak). Origin has a solar feed-in rate of 9 c/kWh compared with Alinta's6 c/kWh. Alinta looks like a giant rip off!

Peter from NSW replied to Travers:

How do you get an Origin supply rate of 141.01 c/day and a FIT of 9 c/kwh. I am with Origin (Solar Boost Plan effective 01/07/17) and pay - Usage 29.799 c/day (Domestic), 11.495 c/day (Controlled Load 1); Supply 91.179 c/day (Domestic), 6.853 c/day (Controlled Load 1), 10% guaranteed discount and FIT of 15 c/day. These prices are GST inclusive. In July I changed from Click as I was not happy with the exorbitant price increase. Click have since offered me 20% discount and 19 cent FIT, but they are still dearer than my new Origin plan.

Peter, I think the rates and supply charges are dependent on who your energy supplier is. I'm at Port Macquarie and Essential Energy is the energy supplier in country areas. Prior to moving, we were in Maitland, with Ausgrid as the energy supplier. We paid much less for electricity in Maitland than we do in Port Macquarie. Everything about Essential Energy is very expensive! Unfortunately, there is no choice in who supplies the electricity.

Richard
Richard from NSW replied to Travers:

Travers, you are correct. Essential's daily supply charge is about double that of Ausgrid and Endeavour. I'm with Ausgrid. I don't have solar and am on a domestic single rate plus controlled load 1. I'm satisfied that, at the moment, I'm doing as well as I can on Fair Deal 30 (2 year deal, 30% off usage but NOT daily supply charge) but I'll be watching my power bills very carefully to see if any sneaky undisclosed rate increases appear on my bills. If anyone's doing better would welcome feedback.

I checked out the Click energy offer through FiftyUp club and found - yes they offered 23% discount and 19cent/kw FIT BUT they were a full 10 cents/Kw dearer than my present supplier for KW used = so they would have worked out dearer by $50/$60 per quarter So I hope future offers are better than the Click energy offer

Peter
Peter from NSW replied to alexander:

I changed from Click in July because their offers do not match the hype. The discount and feed in sound great, but the rates are substantially dearer than other providers.

Would certainly support any opportunity to see reductions in power bills. A united front to achieve results sounds excellent and a common sense approach. And yes our sector is growing rapidly so use our numbers to get results!!

I am thankful for the fiftyup club. I have got good deals through them both with power and insurance Thank you

I hope you do a lot better job of negotiating a good power deal than One Big Switch. I'm with Origin Energy and the Click Energy offer is about 30% more expensive for "Anytime tarrif" and 60% more expensve for "Off Peak". The daily usage charges are about the same. Click have a better Solar rebate, but it doesn't compensate for the much higher usage charges. FiftyUp Club should be lobbying the Government to make Energy retailers more comparable, like they did with housing loans. At least we could compare apples with apples.

Richard from NSW replied to Travers:

The One Big Switch (OBS) deal in NSW now links up with Alinta, NOT Click Energy. I was previously with Click through OBS and, like you, on the last reading found their rates had gone up massively. Check Alinta through OBS. I changed over.

Peter
Peter from NSW replied to Richard:

I changed to Origin for the same reason. the massive increase in Click rates over the last 2 years. Even with private offers from Click (25% discount and 19 cent FIT), they were still dear than the my Origin plan.

Peter
Peter from NSW replied to Travers:

Fully agree with Click being dearer than Origin. That is why I changed bank to Origin.
