Fee Free Banking Deals

Last week marked a rare victory for bank customers with Australia’s big four banks declaring they will no longer charge fees for ATM withdrawals.

About time – you say? We hear you.

According to the RBA, Aussies made 250 million ATM withdrawals from banks other than their own last year. It’s estimated that the big four’s decision will result in a saving for

customers of around $100 million a year.

While the removal of ATM costs will mean a savings, Treasurer Scott Morrison says fees on late credit card payments and other bank charges also need to go.

Recent figures reveal that the collective interest Australians pay on credit card debt each month is in the vicinity of $374 million. However, there are some banking products on the market with NO fees if you look around.

We asked Mozo for the top fee-free products currently available. You can read the full list here

Whoopidoo, I cannot contain my enthusiasm! I cannot recall paying a foreign ATM fee unless I was withdrawing cash on one of my overseas trips, so I couldn't care less if banks were to charge a dollar for each transaction! I call this the "lazy person's fee" since there are so many opportunities for people to withdraw cash. Not only can you withdraw cash as part of a purchase at your local grocer and some other shops, but you can withdraw cash from Coles, Woolworth, Kmart, Target, BigW without a making a purchase. If people are too lazy to either look for an ATM of their bank, or withdraw cash while shopping, they deserve to pay a fee. The only exceptions would be residents of small villages with just one bank - which of course means that you bank with that bank.
