The Best NBN Plans from Telstra, Optus and More

The thing is, many of us have been with the same internet service provider for a long time. As many as 40-percent of Aussie homes are connected to Telstra, while Optus and the TPG group have about 20-percent market share each. And many of us are quite happy with our provider, thank you very much.

But that that doesn't mean that you shouldn't shop around for a better deal, even if it is with the names you know.

So let's take a look at the best plans from the big internet providers. If you see a deal better than the one you're currently on, you make sure you have them switch you over.

Telstra

Thanks to big pressure from the small telcos, Telstra NBN internet prices are now quite reasonable, if you can do without the bells and whistles, like Foxtel. You may find that you can get away with paying as little as $69 per month, depending on how often you use the internet.

Telstra plans start with NBN Standard speed which should be plenty for households that have been happy enough with the speed of their ADSL connection. If you have a larger household (2-4 people) of heavy internet users, starting at $79 you can step up to Standard Plus speed.

Optus

Optus NBN plans are fantastically simple to compare. There are basically three options to consider, starting from $75 per month. The basic plan comes with Standard Plus NBN speed, unlimited internet data and a home phone service that you pay for as you use it. If you step up to the next price bracket, you get a Fetch TV set-top box with a premium channel pack and Optus Sport bundled in. The final price bump takes your internet speed up to the maximum 100Mbps.

TPG

TPG has long been known for its great value internet plans, but with the arrival of the NBN the telco has added something new into the mix: top notch speed and reliability.

TPG promises evening speeds to rival that of Optus and Telstra, but for quite a bit less with plans starting at $49.99 per month. Fast evening speeds mean less congestion on the network during the times when you love using the internet most. TPG offers the NBN on three speed tiers: Basic, Standard Plus and Premium, which means whether you’re a small household of light users or a large household of heavy users, you’ll be able to find a plan to suit.

iiNet

Renowned for its excellent customer service, iiNet is a favourite for internet in homes across Australia. Its NBN plans can be cheap and cheerful, but can also include Fetch TV entertainment options.

As you can see, even if you want to stay with your current provider, there are plenty of great deals to sift through. And this is just the tip if the iceberg. If you'd like to dig a little deeper, try running your own address search on our broadband plans comparison tool.

Can you advise options outside the NBN such as 4G and 5G. I would prefer not to join the NBN

Telstra and Optus do offer mobile broadband. I have the Nighthaw Netgear by telstra, very fast router,4gX and 5g, and where I am download speeds of above 100 to 150mbps. I can carry it everywhere with me and I also use it to connect my phone and tablet which has saved me much money. The plan for 80G is expensive $90 a month but worth it for very fast speed and no outages, unlike the NBN which has caused headaches for my brother...outages and slow speed even with the fast plan by Optus. Just check out whistleout for further information or call them.
