Size Matters When it Comes to NBN
Are you confused about NBN speeds? You’re not the only one. In fact, NBN Co’s recent research revealed that two thirds of Australians aren’t sure what NBN speed they need. Gee, they’re making it easy for us, huh?
But it can be easy. In fact, for many Australians, choosing an NBN speed should come down to just one thing: household size. Know how many people live in your house? Of course you do.
SO HERE’S WHAT NBN SPEED YOU MAY NEED
1-2 people? Choose NBN 25
Also known as “Standard Speed”, NBN 25 is a great option for households of 1-2 light to mid-level internet users. It’s fast enough for browsing, emails, Facebook and even streaming Netflix, although it may struggle if you both want to watch different Netflix shows at the same time.
The great thing about NBN 25 is that we’re starting to see some internet suppliers offering it at a discount, as long as you’re willing to settle for a data limit around the 100GB mark. That’s enough for about 30 hours of Netflix per month, so you can still binge-watch The Crown.
2-4 people? Choose NBN 50
Got some birds at home who won’t leave the nest? Or are you a two-person household of heavy users? The more people who want to use the internet at the same time in your home, the more speed you’ll need.
NBN 50, also known as “Standard Plus Speed”, should satisfy all but the most large and demanding of households. You can have multiple people jumping on to stream TV, Skype, game, you name it.
NBN 50 is becoming a popular choice with Australian households thanks to a price cut earlier this year, so you should easily find a plan within your reach.
4+ people? Choose NBN 100
Also known as “Premium Speed”, NBN 100 plans are the fastest internet money can buy right now, and they cost about $20-$30 more per month than NBN 50. We’d recommend only investing in an NBN 100 plan if you’re a large household of heavy internet users, or if you need to regularly download or upload large files.
If that sounds like you, here are a few options to consider.
