I never thought I’d see that…
We live in a time of many surprises and not a few shocks.
We expect everyday things to change in our lifetime, but it seems we’ve had more than a lifetime of shifts in a handful of years.
Things that might have seemed impossible even a few months or years ago happen now. So we’re asking members what’s now commonplace that they never thought they’d see.
Here’s my sample list –what’s on yours?
I NEVER THOUGHT I’D SEE…
- The world veering towards the precipice of a nuclear war
- More people working from home (in the western world) than at any time since the birth of the Industrial revolution.
- Men being able to marry other men
- Petrol at $2.25 a litre
- Ciggies at $30 a packet
- Women’s cricket being taken seriously
- Australian state borders banged shut for weeks
- Aussies banned from leaving their own country by their own government
- Bondi Beach fenced off to stop people gathering on the sand
- Second-hand cars costing almost as much as new ones - if you could even get one

PS - For those who argue about such matters may I recommend the following book Centuries of Change by Ian Mortimer which investigates which period of history saw the most disruption and development. A clue to the answer, and a riposte to the argument the internet changes ‘everything’, is that lives are much much more than just technological change.
