Get your timing right and you could save money

secondIn saving money as in life, sometimes timing is everything.

And this week news.com.au has published a fantastic rundown of when is the best time to buy a range of products, from airline tickets to groceries, petrol, cars and clothes.

For example, did you know the best days for supermarket specials are Mondays and Thursdays? “Stores often offer specials on staples such as toilet paper, nappies and laundry powder on Mondays. Another round of specials happens each Thursday and again on Friday with fresh produce markdowns,” writes Sonja Koremans at news.com.au.

For flights, avoid Friday afternoons, Sunday nights and Monday mornings, and leave in the middle of the day for the cheapest fares. Book well ahead and buy direct from the airline, not through travel booking sites.

And for petrol, the ACCC says to avoid Thursday and Fridays – although you should now be aware that the old weekly fuel discounting cycle has stretched out to more like a 3-week cycle, as this recent story reported.

You can read the full news.com.au story here, with other tips on when to buy cars, clothes, renovations, gadgets, perfume and video games.

Up to now all my dealings with FiftyUp Club offers have been very satisfactory but I would advise anyone considering the BP Fuel Cards offer to give it a miss. Very disappointing. Ordered and paid for my cards four weeks ago and still have not received them and despite proceeding exactly as requested by BP in their recommended "contact us" procedures after three days I am still awaiting for a response from them. To get some action I had to resort to discussing the matter with the FiftyUp Club Customer Service. Just what does BP stand for... Blistfully Pathetic or Beyond Participation ? Where possible try to purchase things on line! Compare & negotiate! Do not use credit cards! Where possible use Pay Pal more secure !! That's if you are computer littered. If not ask a friend to help you !!
