New website tells you when to buy cheap petrol

petrol-420x0The consumer watchdog has launched a new website that tracks the petrol price cycle in the major capitals and gives tips on when to buy your fuel.

A daily report will be published at this link:

https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/petrol-diesel-and-lpg/petrol-price-cycles#petrol-price-cycles-in-capital-cities

It’s the first time the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has offered advice like this.

Along with other websites and apps that give maps and graphs of petrol prices – such as Motormouth and the Australian Institute of Petroleum - this new site will add to the growing mine of information available to motorists who are determined to save on their fuel bills.

Also, don’t forget our recent story “5 Ways to Save on Petrol“.

Unfortunately there is no price cycle outside the capital cities, so the ACCC tool doesn’t cover regional areas.

If you’re in regional NSW, you might want to join the Prime7 News Petrol Patrol Facebook page, where members post pictures of petrol price boards from around regional NSW to share information on where the cheap fuel is.

Below are the ACCC’s tips for Sydney, Melbourne and brisbane today, and a graph of the price cycle in each city.

Sydney tip:

  • prices are decreasing but they are likely to decrease further
  • if possible, motorists should delay buying petrol until later.

Melbourne tip:

  • prices appear to be around the lowest point of the price cycle
  • now is a good time for motorists to buy petrol.

Brisbane tip:

  • prices are decreasing but they are likely to decrease further
  • if possible, motorists should delay buying petrol until later.

George from NSW. With the price of oil dropping why is there a price cycle??? This is ridiculous. We are being gouged and authorities are doing nothing!!!

Why doesn't someone organize to purchase All Fuel from only one Company for a month , then another company the next month . Mess with their heads for a change .

Why is the fluctuations on fuel allowed to go on it appears that no government body has enough guts to stop the big rip off ,

Instead of the blasted guessing game that the fuel companies play with us, the motoring public, why not have a stable flat rate fuel all of time, that includes all types of fuel. At the current price per barrel, there is no logical reason, except for greed, why our fuel can't be one hell of a lot cheaper.

Really? Don't see how.

No Diesel prices that I can find. Having just driven back to Melbourne from Gold Coast many of the smaller rural towns had cheaper fuel than the metropolitan stations. Motorists being ripped off again?

What about the millions that do not live in Capital cities
