NEW CAMPAIGN TO GET BETTER VALUE ON THE #1 COST OF LIVING ISSUE FOR OVER-50S; HEALTH INSURANCE

Australia’s biggest consumer club for over-50s is launching a campaign to source exclusive Health insurance offers for mature Australians.

The Great Aussie Health Check campaign aims to use the combined buying power of 25,000 consumers aged over 50 to negotiate exclusively discounted health insurance offers.

A recent survey of 1,000 plus over-50s found they rate Health Insurance as the #1 cause of bill stress to them and that just 2% believe their premium represents good value.

Many over-50s have suffered under perpetual price rises because they remain loyal to their providers. 69% declared they have been with their current fund for 6 years or more.

The Great Aussie Health Check campaign aims to break this loyalty and get better value by:

  • Signing up 25,000 consumers aged over 50 in the next 4 weeks
  • Use their collective buying power to source special health insurance offers, and
  • Get 1000s of Over-50s the health insurance premiums they deserve

FiftyUp Club’s Christopher Zinn is launching the campaign on national TV & radio today.

“Over-50s are an extremely important and loyal cohort of customers for the health insurance industry, it’s about time they were rewarded for this.

“MA50+ is a chance for FiftyUps to come together and use their collective buying power to deliver some real cost of living relief. We want 25,000 FiftyUps to join and send a clear message to the health insurance industry – it’s time FiftyUps got what they deserved”.

Joining the Great Aussie Health Check is entirely cost and obligation-free. Consumers can sign up at www.FiftyUpClub.com.au. Registration closes at midnight on 30 September 2016.

Details of case study FiftyUps who are feeling the effects of unaffordable health insurance and have joined the campaign, are available for media outlets on request.

My Insurance with Bupa has become very expensive and I have to take a package deal and I am not able to drop the services I don't use. I would like some thoughts on another provider.

Kayley, what a cop out. You are supposed to be getting deals for ALL members.

No discounts for loyal members, but shopping spree cards for newbies. Your campaign needs to put some balance into your work.

Hi Paul, Unfortunately we can't control what incentives are offered to existing members which is why we suggest to shop around. If you feel you're being loyal to your provider but they aren't being loyal to you then we definitely encourage you to compare policies. K

I hate the fact that you have to pay exorbitant prices for private health and then you have to pay gaps when you put in a claim! We had to stop paying private health when we went to one wage because we chose to have a parent stay home to raise our children when they were young and now we get penalized by a lifetime loading. Even if we decide to take up private health we have to pay this lifetime loading of more than 40% for 10 years! This makes it too expensive to take up now.

The biggest ripoff of the medical insurance schemes is the fact that you have the waiting periods once you change from one provider to another. This is the only thing that puts me off changing from the provider I am with currently. Even if you have been a member for many years you still get penalised just for changing.NOT FAIR AT ALL. We've paid for those services OVER & OVER.Unhappy customer

Hi Everil, you don't have to re-serve your waiting period if you're already covered for a particular condition. Hope this helps... Kayley

Need a better cover, the loading is ridiculous if you haven't had cover. Penalised if you don't have it, penalised if you do it's a no win. In retirement it's a lot of money, it's a struggle

I've been a loyal member for 10 years, and have been in a well paid job for that time. When my job finishes (next year) I will really battle to keep paying 6k a year to maintain the same cover. It doesn't make sense IMHO.

My Husband and I are at a point where we are seriously thinking on letting our health fund go. Normally quite a healthy couple though I don't want to loose that security. We need a fund that listens to the over fifties and definitely come up with a better deal.

The upto 70% loading government has placed on members that have, for whatever reason, let their medical health cover laps is nothing short of extortion.

I have never had health insurance, I've never had the LUXURY to afford this, yes health insurance is a luxury these days. Now in my 50's and my finances are freed up a little and I'm thinking of taking up a policy. My family have always been very well served by the public sector and all care needs in a (emergency or not) have always been seen to at no expense other than basically paying some excesses and medications. This far outweighed the exorbitant cost over many years of health insurance. So the scales are a little tilted.
