Health Premium Increases: How does your fund compare?

Health Minister Greg Hunt has approved federal government plans to increase health premiums by 4.84 per cent, that will add an average $200 a year to the cost of family cover.

The latest increase comes as private health coverage is going backwards for the first time in 15 years, with 1 in 5 policyholders reportedly considering dropping or downgrading their cover. Your precise price rise will depend on which health fund and policy you hold, but premiums on average have now risen by 72% in a decade, 3 times the rate of inflation. You can scroll down to see the fund-by-fund average increases.

Someone from VIC commented:

yes I'm with HCF I find them quite good but still quite expensive I would like to go top cover but I don't need any thing related to pregnancy but when I rang them and asked if I could go top cover and drop pregnancy they said they couldn't do that for me and there mid plus plan doesn't cover some of the things I am going to need just ridiculous

Someone
Someone from NSW commented:

They all dont actually want to cover what we actually need. Top cover for our age group would be too much of a risk to their massive profits - they might actually have to pay out for something that we ACTUALLY need. They cant have that. Profit for shareholders is the only care for them - no matter what they 'pretend' to say.
