Money Saving Tip - Saving On Flights

Flight search website CheapFlights has released a new report on Australian flight trends this week. Airfares are one of those costs that have actually gone down over time.

The annual analysis of over 13.5 million searches found that booking more than six months in advance is more expensive, while three months was the sweet spot.

Here are some tips to get your money's worth next holiday:

  • Leave midweek
  • Book one to three months in advance for domestic and Asia-Pacific trips
  • Book three to six months in advance for long haul destinations. According to the research, booking less than a week in advance could end up costing you up to 13 per cent more for domestic flights, eight per cent more to New Zealand and Asia-Pacific, and up to 17 per cent more for international airfares.
  • China is already the most searched destination for Sydney-siders, with Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing all featuring in the top 30 most popular and cheapest destinations.
  • Brisbane is the most expensive departure city for flights to Bali, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
  • Monday and Tuesday see the highest flight searches online
