8000 FiftyUps join new energy campaign in first 24 hours

Our new people power campaign has seen over 8000 people and small businesses join in its first 24 hours; representing over $14,400,000 in combined electricity-bill buying power.

The Power Up & Save campaign aims to aggregate 30,000 individuals and small businesses in a bid to use their combined buying power to unlock big discounts on electricity and gas. Our campaign was launched at Southport SLSC, QLD on Monday and since then has received overwhelming support and feedback regarding the energy price crisis, currently affecting Australians nationwide.

On Wednesday, we traveled to Canberra as Prime Minister Turnbull, Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg and Treasurer Scott Morrison met with power companies to attempt to resolve the crisis.

Malcolm Turnbull’s message to the energy providers is to make sure consumers do not have to pay higher-priced rates. We agree, and we told ABC, 7 & 9 News as much on Wednesday night.

We asked you who you blame for the incredibly high cost of electricity and found that;

  • 28% blame their state government

  • 24% blame the federal government

  • and 22% blame electricity retailers

Not only this, but 91% of those surveyed supported a proposed policy forcing power companies to show what each plan would cost an average household over a year. A similar system is currently active in the UK and was introduced in a bid to make pricing more easily understood. Some Australian retailers have surprisingly expressed support for it.

Power up & Save Campaign Director Christopher Zinn said;

“The Power up and Save campaign was launched to get people’s voices heard.”

“It’s great to see these groups coming together to attempt to come up with a resolution, but the reality is it’ll take months or years until any change comes through on your bill.

“We want to help people help themselves now by joining in our people power campaign.

In order for the new energy campaign to become a success, we need as many people as possible to sign up and join forces to combat the skyrocketing energy prices. With your combined people power special energy offers can be unlocked.

Taking part in the campaign, signing up and receiving new energy deals is so easy. Consumers and small businesses can sign up for free at www.FiftyUpClub.Com.au. It is without any obligation and only takes a few seconds. Afterwards, they can decide if the winning offer is right for you and you can either switch, negotiate or shop around to save.

A few years ago I switched to Click Energy and have been with them ever since. Is this a new campaign to find another provider? Should I join this campaign or stay width Click Energy? I am a little confused. Please advise me.

I am with Click and although they have been pretty good I am concerned at the ridiculous rising costs of electricity to a lot of other people who would be struggling to pay their account or going without. In this day and age we should not be held to ransom by a greedy government and suppliers. Essential services are just that, essential, so that is why we are angry.

Would be nice if we could get the same deals as other cities, but we dont get the chance to shop around and it stinks. I live in the city of Bundaberg and have to deal with Ergon only. I feel this is discrimination, but the government can do what they want and get away with it. If we were a business it would be called restriction of trade. Well done for all your effort getting things moving but would like to see the discrimination stop.

i would like to be able to go on line and find a site with details of actual charges..e.g. Origin xcents per kWh peak usage ycents per Kwh T33 controled supply etc AGL xcents per kwh peak usage etc DoDo xcents per etc and ALL suppliers thus displayed.Then one could really compare.At present each supplier asks for your details, makes promises of so much% off , then rings up annoyingly the next day,but none give actual details of their prices! If there is such a site details per email would be much appreciated. m Margaret

I am in NSW, but this should be the same for each state. When you go onto the website for the energy retailers they have a link to their "ENERGY FACT SHEETS". I know because I have done just that and found the information which you are asking for. This has enabled me to create an Excel document and compare different plans. I input the Kilowatts used for each meter (Domestic and Controlled Load 1 Usage), the Daily Supply Charge, the kilowatts exported (Solar meter) and the number of days. With these 5 elements I am able to compare plans and calculate which is best for me. As previously stated, Click (50up-Shine Plan) was the worst of the 15 plans I looked at, so I changed to Origin (Solar Boost) this month. Based on my calculations using the actual figures from 01-07-2016 to 30-06-2017 my total daily cost will drop from $1.55 to $0.46.

Big Discounts are all very well...but have a look at their Electricity charges. I've checked these out with many suppliers, over past 3 years & many are a huge "con". Anyone can give HUGE Discounts, on huge starting prices. Like shop sales !!

ian from NSW replied to George:

you got it in a nutshell george, I have done the same and found the devil lies in the detail , the actual charge per kw hour and what most people dont look at is the daily supply charge , all of which they are reluctant to disclose Ian ..nsw

Look at the "Energy Fact Sheets" to determine all the charges.
