8000 FiftyUps join new energy campaign in first 24 hours

Our new people power campaign has seen over 8000 people and small businesses join in its first 24 hours; representing over $14,400,000 in combined electricity-bill buying power.

The Power Up & Save campaign aims to aggregate 30,000 individuals and small businesses in a bid to use their combined buying power to unlock big discounts on electricity and gas. Our campaign was launched at Southport SLSC, QLD on Monday and since then has received overwhelming support and feedback regarding the energy price crisis, currently affecting Australians nationwide.

On Wednesday, we traveled to Canberra as Prime Minister Turnbull, Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg and Treasurer Scott Morrison met with power companies to attempt to resolve the crisis.

Malcolm Turnbull’s message to the energy providers is to make sure consumers do not have to pay higher-priced rates. We agree, and we told ABC, 7 & 9 News as much on Wednesday night.

We asked you who you blame for the incredibly high cost of electricity and found that;

  • 28% blame their state government

  • 24% blame the federal government

  • and 22% blame electricity retailers

Not only this, but 91% of those surveyed supported a proposed policy forcing power companies to show what each plan would cost an average household over a year. A similar system is currently active in the UK and was introduced in a bid to make pricing more easily understood. Some Australian retailers have surprisingly expressed support for it.

Power up & Save Campaign Director Christopher Zinn said;

“The Power up and Save campaign was launched to get people’s voices heard.”

“It’s great to see these groups coming together to attempt to come up with a resolution, but the reality is it’ll take months or years until any change comes through on your bill.

“We want to help people help themselves now by joining in our people power campaign.

In order for the new energy campaign to become a success, we need as many people as possible to sign up and join forces to combat the skyrocketing energy prices. With your combined people power special energy offers can be unlocked.

Taking part in the campaign, signing up and receiving new energy deals is so easy. Consumers and small businesses can sign up for free at www.FiftyUpClub.Com.au. It is without any obligation and only takes a few seconds. Afterwards, they can decide if the winning offer is right for you and you can either switch, negotiate or shop around to save.

Apart from the apathy of the Federal and State governments, I believe the greatest causes of the current energy pricing crisis are the result the selling off of the electricity infrastructure assets but, more importantly, the pathetic pursuit of ridiculous renewable energy targets (and at what astronomical cost) which will not make the slightest difference to our country's so called carbon pollution contrubution. Those few businesses that have so far survived the current energy pricing crisis will probably move overseas anyway to survive, thus just transferring the "pollution" problem elsewhere. To hell with the Paris Agreement.

BEWARE OF SMOKE AND MIRRORS! You really need to do your homework before you sign up for an energy plan that offers big discounts. Some of these retailers inflate their "standard" tariffs by up to 60% and then offer a big "discount" on their inflated prices. You need to work out if your total bill will actually decrease or increase from your current plan before you change.

Wholeheartedly agree with you on this point. A big discount does not necessarily mean a saving in the long run.

I joined the Click energy provider getting a 17% discount. Then they offered a 25% discount which I applied for but I never had a reply and did not receive the improved discount.. Now their usage rates have increased by almost 45%.. As an existing Click customer will I be able to benefit from any future Special Offers?

Peter from NSW replied to Ian:

I would look at changing companies. I did because I did not like the exorbitant price increase. Of all the new electricity plans I looked at using my previous 12 months usage, Click was 15th out of 15. They lost my custom.

Winston Churchill and John Howard were not the most popular people but they were good leaders; what we need are good leaders today and not self centered politicians. We need people who will work for the country and the people . When will we learn.........

The basic concept of democracy is that normal citizens are elected for small (4 year).Periods of time.It was never meant to function where small groups of the middle class had their job description of "politician"for life.This is where the failure has begun.All Australians have been betrayed by this out of touch elite group labeled"politician'.No energy in this resource rich country should be sold and shipped overseas.Our energy should be for Australians now and foreward to the distant future.I might add that privatizing our basic utilities as a political concept has created this nightmare...I might add that we should joint the rest of the world in abolishing compulsory voting..If they don't deserve reelection then we in the pretend democracy should have the right not to vote for them..With what they have all done with our energy do you think the deserve voting for(both state and federal).I don't think so...
