Power Up & Save Campaign visits the home of the world’s most expensive electricity prices!

Christopher Zinn and the FiftyUp Club team visited Adelaide this morning. Surprisingly, South Australians pay 47.13¢ per kilowatt hour, the highest electricity prices than anywhere else in the world!

That is why the Power Up & Save campaign aims to fight back by getting 30,000 people to join together in a bid to use their combined buying power to unlock big discounts on electricity and gas.

The campaign already has over 10,000 registrants in just over a week. What’s damning to see is that while Australians are copping it, many are reluctant to do anything about it.

Registrants were surveyed and we noticed:

  1. 40% of consumers haven’t ever switched electricity or gas before

  2. 45 % are not receiving discounts or are unsure if they are

  3. Only 30% small businesses have switched electricity or gas before

This lack of knowledge about switching and its benefits is still rife in the community, that's one of the main reasons why the Power Up & Save campaign was launched.

10,000 people have joined and have shown that they’re ready to do something about the spiralling cost of energy. It’s not good enough to sit there and complain about increases in energy prices. We want to help people help themselves now by joining in our people power campaign. Anyone can join, if we can get the voice of 30,000 Australians together, we’ll be able to fight back and help save our communities on the ever rising cost of energy.”  the campaign director, Christopher Zinn, said today.

The FiftyUp Club has over 280,000 members nationally and uses their combined buying power to unlock special offers. It’s free to join at www.FiftyUpClub.Com.au.

HOW IT WORKS:

1. Families and Small Businesses can join the campaign for free at www.FiftyUpClub.com.au

2. FiftyUp Club uses the People Power of 1000s of households who join to source group-discounted offers

3. Households decide if the winning offers are right for them and can either switch, negotiate or shop around to save.

A couple of years ago my father came to live with me. I live in a home that is freezing in winter. Hot in summer. My electricity bills skyrocketed. Dad's bills had only ever been in the low hundreds even though more equipment was used. I have no air conditioners i wash othes every fortnight I have a heater on all the time on 21degree i have a smart tv that i have on all the time.which wasn't too smart heh! $250 a fortnight i pay for electricity alone.

Sue, where is your TV situated in the home? In my last flat I placed it in my 12x11 bedroom as I do not like TVs in main reception area with all chairs facing 'the idol'. Downstairs my neighbour placed hers in the sitting room where double doors opened to a breakfast room and kitchen. Her costs for heating, with one and sometimes two large heaters, resulted in a bill slightly more than twice mine although I did much more cooking. The cost of TVs is now so low that one could buy a small second TV for the bedroom with what one would save on one heating bill. Reading, writing, knitting, laptop computer using and various other activities can often be done comfortably in a smaller and cheaper to heat and cool area, than the area presently used. This could save a lot of money both summer and winter.

SUE IF YOUR USING A FAN HEATER YOUR POWER WILL INCREASE FAST. IF YOU OWN YOUR HOME ITS WORTH PUTTING INSLATION IN THE ROOF AND A REVERSE AIR CON IS THE CHEAPEST TO RUN. THE BEST ELECTRICITY DISCOUNT OF 20% IS POWER DIRECT FOR 12 MONTHS WITH NO CONTACT FEES. I'Ve JUST CHANGED. REGARDS LYN from SA
