Spring Cleaning Guide
“Spring is the time of plans and projects.” - Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
Have you been hibernating like a Mountain Pygmy-possum this winter? Well, spring is finally here and it’s time to shed the winter blues, extra winter kilos, and the winter dust that has settled into all the nooks and crannies of your home.
Though cleaning can be a tiring chore, a good thorough “spring clean” that will last a season could easily inspire you to tackle all of your hopes and dreams. Okay, maybe it will just inspire you to just pack away the winter gear and break out the barbie for sausages and prawns.
You can obviously pay someone to come and clean your home or you can use these tips to get you through to the bitter end.
Clean in a Pattern - cleaning methodically will get the job done quicker. Example, if you clean a room by starting at the door and move in a clockwise position, you know where you’ve started and how much you have left to go. Cleaning here and there will more likely leave you with a bigger mess than you started.
TIP: if you clean one room every day, you don’t have to save everything for the next spring cleaning
Have the Proper Cleaning Supplies - whether you invest in the latest and greatest cleaning products and technology or invest in the cheap all natural products, you can’t clean a home if you don’t have a broom or the right supplies.
TIP: a 1 to 1 ratio of water and white vinegar will clean most floors, surfaces and walls.
Don’t Forget the “Hidden” in Plain Sight Areas - when was the last time you wiped down the top of your fridge (or underneath it), cupboards, the s-bend of the toilet or the toilet flush button? Don’t forget to clean the cobwebs and built-up dust from your ceiling, windows, and cornices either.
TIP: Neutralise pet and general household smells by sprinkling bicarb soda over the carpet/rug and leave for 15 minutes, then vacuum.

Check the Things that Keep You Safe - test and replace the batteries in smoke detectors and alarms. If you have fire extinguisher, check the expiry date or get it inspected.
TIP: To de-grime patio furniture, add a squirt of dish detergent to a bowl of warm water, and use it to wipe down your outdoor tables and chairs. Then, rinse clean with the garden hose.
Now that all the cleaning is done, kick back with your favourite beverage and enjoy your sparkling clean home.
