Spring Health Check
“Health is the greatest possession. Contentment is the greatest treasure. Confidence is the greatest friend.” - Lao Tzu
Spring is here and while you’re packing away the winter gear you might have noticed you also packed on a few extra winter kilos.
Now is an ideal time to get yourself to the doctor to get your health checked.
You don’t have to have the perceived perfect summer body, but you should at least have the healthiest body you could have so you can enjoy the warmer spring sun.
HERE ARE A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD GET CHECKED TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN TIP TOP SHAPE
Weight Check: A couple of kilos overweight isn’t the end of the world, but if you are way past your ideal weight for your height and age, your health could be in jeopardy. Those who are overweight are than likely to have heart disease, strokes, cancer, depression, and cancer.
Bowel Cancer: Australia has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world. Around one in 23 Australians will develop bowel cancer during their lifetime and starting at 50, the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program will let you test for bowel cancer at home for free.
Bone Density Scan: This will allow your doctor to assess your risk factors for osteoporosis.

Blood Pressure: 1 in 3 adult Australians have high blood pressure. Having high blood pressure can increase your chances of having a heart attack or stroke. Reducing your high blood pressure not only decrease your chances of a heart attack or stroke, it can also decrease your chances of atherosclerosis, kidney disease and more.
Prostate Cancer Check: 63% of men over the age of 65 are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Just like skin cancer, early detection of prostate cancer can save your life and possibly save you from radical cancer treatments.
Cervical Cancer Check: 80% of cervical cancer is squamous cell carcinoma and women should be tested for cervical cancer until they are at least 74 years of age. The biggest factor of cervical cancer is human papillomavirus (HPV) and the second is smoking. Early detection can save your life.
There are other things you should get checked as well like eyes, cholesterol, glucose levels, dental, cardiovascular, hearing, and more. Download the FiftyUp Checklist and make that doctor’s appointment so you can jump head on into spring healthy as a horse.
