Why I Took Out Travel Insurance
Being on the FiftyUp Club Team, I get to see first hand how passionate members are and how the discounts and offers we give you help you in your day-to-day lives.
So you’d think I’d know better than to travel without Travel Insurance, right?
Well, now I do. This is my story on why I took up Travel Insurance for my NEXT holiday.
Recently, I went to New Zealand for a quick holiday. I had considered travel insurance, but at the last minute, decided against it. My main reasoning was, I’ll only be travelling for 6 days. I won’t need it. I packed my bags and set off. While the trip was amazing and the beauty of New Zealand was breathtaking, on the day I was set to fly back, my flight was delayed and ultimately cancelled.
It was at that very moment, I thought, "I should have taken out Travel Insurance."
I hustled to the customer service desk of the airline and found a different flight that would eventually get me home, a day later than I needed to be. For the first time, I had experienced what could actually go wrong when travelling - a trip delay and flight cancellation.
Other things that could go wrong when travelling:
- Unexpected sickness - the number one fear of most Aussies who buy travel insurance
- Being injured
- Losing a family or travel companion
- Theft
And the list goes on.
I’ve got another quick holiday planned in a few months and I’ve already purchased my Travel Insurance for it and you can guarantee I’ll never travel again without.
It took me about 15 minutes from start to end to get my Travel Insurance and that includes reading the PDS and making sure I was covered for anything I thought could happen. Whether I actually use it or not, when my next journey happens, I will have the peace of mind knowing that if something happens, I’m covered.
