Good news for regional motorists and grey nomads

Screen Shot 2014-12-17 at 12.01.52 PMGood news today – especially for regional members and grey nomads –  as the consumer watchdog gets new powers to monitor petrol prices and hunt for price gouging.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will now issue quarterly reports on petrol prices, and conduct in-depth investigations into problem areas.

Minister for Competition Policy and Consumer Affairs Bruce Billson told the ABC today the ACCC would conduct about four “deep dive” investigations into fuel markets that are a concern due to unexplained high prices.

He named the Shoalhaven in NSW, the Northern Territory and some parts of Melbourne’s west as target areas.

“It’s a closer examination of pricing and margins, of supply impacts, of even the state of competition in particular markets,” he said.

“We’ve seen even in capital cities as the price of oil’s come down, the price at the bowser has come down more quickly in some capital cities than others.”

This is especially good news for regional areas, where a lack of competition often means the capital city price cycle doesn’t exist. Regions are also missing out on the ACCC’s new daily advice website on when is the best time to buy petrol.

(By the way, if you live in any of the capital cities, the ACCC’s analysts are saying NOW is the time to buy, with average ULP prices uniformly below $1.30 today).

How does one chain of Petrol outlets sell Diesel for 10c per litre less then other chains. Other outlets offer discounts for supermarket purchases but charges a higher petrol price. This really is deceptive pricing.

Why is it that when prices go down we see e few cents here and there but when they go up suddenly they are by 20/25 cents a litre. Time something was done about this.

The ACCC is concerned with petrol only. Most grey nomads drive diesel vehicles which does not come under the ACCC guidelines. WHY?????? Bruce Merrin

It is very interesting to see comparisons say with the USA fuel prices where it is about $2 per gallon, about 50c per litre. We are getting ripped off big time. I suspect because the fuel companies have held pricing as they have for so long, the ACCC will be powerless to change. I note Cost Co has diesel for 129.9 and a local servo has diesel at 145.9. How can this be I ask?

My friend in Oklahoma Reports they pay about $1.99Us a Gallon for petrol which includes 18c a gallon Federal Tax And 18c a gallon State tax, we pay about 53c a litre plus 10% GST, the Government is quite happy when the petrol price is high so they can get extra revenue from GST. My friend also advises that the taxes go entirely to road maintenance not into Consolidated Revenue.

By the same token, Europeans pay even more for fuel than we do. And, of course, mainstream Americans and Europeans earn less than we do.

Biggest breakthrough in Fuel and Lubricant technology in decades Unless you have had your head deeply buried in the sand you would have heard the term "NANO" by now. Nano technology is the biggest breakthrough in technology the world has ever seen. A nano (nm) is basically one millionth of a molecule, and most of the best fuels and lubricants have been engineered at molecular levels to enhance or improve their characteristics. Well, now science can engineer at "Nano" level which has given us results only dreamed of in past decades. Because these Nano additives (XSNano) and lubricants can work so effectively they can produce a complete burn of any fuel they are added to, resulting in far better fuel economy, more power and dramatic reduction of exhaust emissions without any alterations to the engine or fuel system. better fuel economy, more power, less exhaust emissions. We have road trains and heavy trucks operating here in Australia achieving 25% better fuel economy, and that is a massive saving for any company to achieve, not to mention the reduction in emissions and maintenance that is also obtained with the use of this amazing technology. Most mining sites require a reduction in emissions now before they will let a truck or machine on site. This additive is sold under the label of XSNANO and only available in Australia and New Zealand through the sole agent Lubrication Solutions P/L also trading as Bi-Tron Australia.
