Meet the oldest Air Ambulance Nurse in Australia

Maureen Roberts has many career highlights to share from her 32 years as Australia’s longest serving air ambulance nurse.

In a recent interview on Macquarie Media, Maureen told the story of the pilot of her aircraft passing out at the controls and how she calmly popped his oxygen mask on and brought him around enough to land the plane. And you thought your job had challenges!

Maureen began her career in the Riverina and became interested in the Air Ambulance are speaking to a fellow nurse from the service. She started her career in Albury but is now based at Mascot, near Sydney.

Another memorable moment of her career involved a premature baby in the skies over the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Air Ambulance needed to land but a FA18 Hornet on “critical fuel” took precedence. Maureen remembers saying to the Air Ambulance pilot “the fighter pilot can eject if he needs to but we can’t, we need to land”!

One of the wonderful things about her job, Maureen told us, is that every day is a different experience depending on the patients you're transporting.

“Sometimes you're taking people home to die and they know they're going to die and they have the most amazing conversations with you."

Make us visible to younger people and governments. Improve services. Get more discounts on everything . Give baby boomers more work with flexible hours. Better health care and a living wage pension. Use the abundant knowledge our generations have to supervise and guide younger people in the work force . Use us.

I don't understand how the cost of living as gone up, we are told to save on electric we should switch of some of the lights and switch off the thinks we don't use....well I have only 1 light and the TV on and I'm told to switch things off, it seams the less we use and the more it costs, what do I have to cut out to make my life more enjoyable...

That's so true, by the time we put money away for petrol, electricity and health funds, there's not much left for food..

I renewed my car insurance yesterday $193 Cheaper than my previous provider. In the process I found Coles to be $160 dearer than my previous provider and $353 more then I am paying now. $100 discount from Coles would still put me in the red by $253.

I agree the fact that it is coles puts me right off. I dont want them to have more power than they already have.

I agree, while I am not particularly loyal to my present insurer I am not really interested in raising the profit margin of those that do not support the country.

Hi Tony, Coles Insurance has been chosen as a partner for the FiftyUp Club because they believe many Australians are paying too much for car insurance and they aim to provide a quality, value for money alternative to the major players. Coles Insurance won the Australian Banking and Finance “General Insurance Product of the Year” award 2013, as well as the Mozo People's Choice Awards “Best Value for Money Car Insurer” and “Top 5 Car Insurer” for 2013.

Please can someone try for bulk buys for electricity gas and phone as these are essential bills and perhaps a group such as the 50up club could help us.
