Meet the oldest Air Ambulance Nurse in Australia

Maureen Roberts has many career highlights to share from her 32 years as Australia’s longest serving air ambulance nurse.

In a recent interview on Macquarie Media, Maureen told the story of the pilot of her aircraft passing out at the controls and how she calmly popped his oxygen mask on and brought him around enough to land the plane. And you thought your job had challenges!

Maureen began her career in the Riverina and became interested in the Air Ambulance are speaking to a fellow nurse from the service. She started her career in Albury but is now based at Mascot, near Sydney.

Another memorable moment of her career involved a premature baby in the skies over the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Air Ambulance needed to land but a FA18 Hornet on “critical fuel” took precedence. Maureen remembers saying to the Air Ambulance pilot “the fighter pilot can eject if he needs to but we can’t, we need to land”!

One of the wonderful things about her job, Maureen told us, is that every day is a different experience depending on the patients you're transporting.

“Sometimes you're taking people home to die and they know they're going to die and they have the most amazing conversations with you."

i would like to see a marketing guru negotiate deals and have a symbol of recognition developed so that we can get manufacturers and retailers can purchase that symbol with the money going to funding the administration of the club and give us the discount for example on shopper dockets for petrol the food retailers distribute why shouldn't we get the discounts. We could all have a card with reward points that are able to be used when we won't to.

When joining this Club I came across a much needed Party I was not aware it existed: it's The Seniors Party. I was so excited that Immediately went into their website (I think it's www.seniorsparty.org) and after reading their aims I joined. And there are no membership fees to join! It's up to you, but if this Club succeeds it could only complement this newly formed Party and vice versa. It appears ALL is happening for us now.

Chris: When I joined this Club I also discovered The Seniors Party and I said to myself: FINALLY! I have been looking for a political party to join that was tailored to my age needs. Now, combining this Club and this Party things mat just start to happen for us. I joined The Seniors Party and I have not looked back!

I am looking forward to discounts that can be achieved with my utilities as well as insurance etc. I am 67 and live alone my sons have successful careers in the finance industry after relying on their parent for there education and they have now started lives that so far have been very successful. I am about to, possibly within the next 12 months. donate one of my kidneys to my youngest son and I am worried about medical expenses etc and what will happen to me thereafter as I don't have anyone close by to talk to about it. Looking forward to be involved going forward. Malcolm from Orange NSW

I'm Joe an 86 year old widowed pensioner, wheelchair bound and never get to the shops so my shopping is done by a carer from DADHC who is required to shop only at the nearest supermarket. Well there is only one local supermarket (you all know which one) and the quality is poor and the choice is sparse ... despite this the prices are high because there is no competition. I'm glad to see that there is a chance now to break down this wicked barrier.

Foxtel do have a deal for pensioners that costs $35.00 but they don't mention it unless you pin them down. We are paying a little extra for the sports channels.

I agree with the comment on bank interest rates as they make massive profits and reduce rates on mortgage and at the same time they reduce our interest rates on our income accounts.
