Meet the oldest Air Ambulance Nurse in Australia

Maureen Roberts has many career highlights to share from her 32 years as Australia’s longest serving air ambulance nurse.

In a recent interview on Macquarie Media, Maureen told the story of the pilot of her aircraft passing out at the controls and how she calmly popped his oxygen mask on and brought him around enough to land the plane. And you thought your job had challenges!

Maureen began her career in the Riverina and became interested in the Air Ambulance are speaking to a fellow nurse from the service. She started her career in Albury but is now based at Mascot, near Sydney.

Another memorable moment of her career involved a premature baby in the skies over the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Air Ambulance needed to land but a FA18 Hornet on “critical fuel” took precedence. Maureen remembers saying to the Air Ambulance pilot “the fighter pilot can eject if he needs to but we can’t, we need to land”!

One of the wonderful things about her job, Maureen told us, is that every day is a different experience depending on the patients you're transporting.

“Sometimes you're taking people home to die and they know they're going to die and they have the most amazing conversations with you."

While that online power deal may be fine for some I myself am only interested in paying by quarterly 'snail mail' bill as I don't want all and sundry having access to my banking details. I prefer to keep service providers, and as many other billers as possible, away from direct debiting my account. If there is any dispute over a bill then you have a chance to deal with it - whereas if they have direct access to your bank then they will take the money anyway and you may as well throw stones at the moon as expect to get any satisfaction from them. So FUC how about looking after the interests of real fifty uppers and trying to get deals that genuinely conform to the way we have been used to doing business rather than attempting to make us conform to 'new-ageism' By the way Seasons greetings to all.

The Coalition government can"t lower electricity prices because of the halfwits in the Labor party and the Greens. So asking a vote on governments doing enough to lower prices with yes or no can not achieve a correct answer.

Fifty Up Club has much better offer with Click electricity. Their two years deal is impressive too. Hope they can find the same offer for gas. Car insurance was also better, but the Coles Insurance {Wesfarmers} worries me, because there is a time limit on the availability of the deal and no guarantee it will continue next year. I was with Coles before and they substantially increased my premium in the 2nd year. I had no claims either. I left them after that. I pay a bit more now, but without large premium increases in the following year. My new company is prepared to offer discounts too and they have given me great claim service.

Good to see you're happy with your current car insurer Andrew. Also, it's great to hear you like the FiftyUp Club electricity offer from Click Energy.

I hope all those punters out there who have changed to Coles car insurance don't have cause to call on them. I know of two claims made against them and it was like pulling teeth to get them to the party in both cases. Good luck folks............

I don't know who these special deals (Coles Insurance and electricity) are intended for but all I can see is "no value for money" offers, they seem expensive to me.

I just received a phone call from an Indian also right on dinner time. When I told him I was not interested as Coles was a lot dearer than I was already paying. He asked me if I went thru the internet I said yes he told me not to go thru the internet. I still was not interested & had to end up hanging up on him. I am not happy with the FiftyUp Club thinking of deleting the website
