Survey of 3000 households proves it pays to switch Electricity providers

fifth-2Great news for anyone who is considering switching Electricity providers to try and save some money.

Four in 5 households that switch electricity providers find it easy and are so satisfied with their decision that they would recommend it to others – with 1 in 4 estimating their saving at $400 or more per year.

According to a major new survey of almost 3000 electricity switchers:

  • 78% are ‘satisfied’ or ‘extremely satisfied’ with their switch
  • 81% would recommend switching to family & friends, and
  • 86% said the online process was “easy” or “very easy”

1 in 4 respondents said they saved over $400 a year, with only 1 in 14 saying they had not saved since switching.

The results are emphatic proof that switching providers is not difficult for most households and pays big dividends for most of those who take the leap.

And yet according to the Australian Energy Market Commission, as many as 40% of households in some states have still not shopped around for a discounted market offer.

The survey is a wake-up call for millions of households paying top dollar for power. It shows that if you’re not prepared to move, there’s no point complaining about electricity prices because you might be your own worst enemy.

Look around and make your retailer compete with the best offers that are out there – or kiss them goodbye.

Start by taking a look at the group-discounted offers available at FiftyUpClub.com.

Consumers can use the Club’s group-discounts as a benchmark and demand that their current retailer match them.

The survey of switchers was undertaken by the FiftyUp Club and the consumer network One Big Switch.

Yes. I saved about $350 per annum. I switched from Origin to Click. I'm interested to learn what was saved by any former AGL user who switched to Click?

Click Energy have been a very large saving for me. As I feel the cold I run heat throughout winter and my electricity bill has halved. Thank you to Click Energy. Jan RG

Click energy are terrible! My bill has almost doubled since we changed to click. They say they will bill monthly, but only read the meter quarterly, and I have been shocked twice when the quarterly bill comes around. They recently increased their daily access charge by over 25%. I rang to complain about my bill, they agreed it was incorrect, and sent me an amended bill for a greater amount! I have ordered solar panels and will change supplier as part of that process

They sent me an email about the above "NEWS" article.. Facts don't lie - this is costing me more than $600 more every year. Must be using stats from those who also changed to solar at the same time. Even then the feedback for this mob is disastrous! Rates per kWh are definitely higher making the savings minimal at best. They need to stop fiddling the figures to fuel inaccuracies. The savings are no where near 17% on any account, and those that are saving, would be at best 1 in 4 and even they would only be saving by the most marginal amount. Would be interesting to see why that many (1/4 of all their customers) actually believe that they are saving! Being ripped off does not sit easy with me and I can prove beyond doubt that my bill has increased enormously without any industry increases during that time!

Click Energy billing is dreadful! I convinced my wife it would save hassles because it is all done by direct debit. Ours went ok for a couple of months, then no bills for 6 months, then a huge bill. It was fine to make a payment plan for the 6mth bill, but we would pay future bills as they fell due – that was the agreement. So one direct debit pays the normal bills and a new direct debit pays off the 6mth bill. They didn’t tell us that you can only have one direct debit, so the new direct debit cancelled out the existing one, so we were paying off the 6mth bill but the others accumulated. I keep phoning them to point out problems, they say they will fix it, but… Oh, the latest? After them having taken out money for the 6mthly bill for several months, they now tell me that it is not possible for them to take it out & never has been! It has gone on and on – the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

I've been with just about all of them. Recently switched to Dodo gas and electric. Also have solar panels. I've been pretty happy so far. I pay monthly by direct debit and they have a 30% pay-on-time discount. That seems to be better than any of the others. All of them are a rip-off as far as solar is concerned. The only way you can win is to use the same amount of solar as you are making at the time. Pretty hard to do. Can't figure out why the power I send to the grid is less valuable than what they send me back when I need it. Just wish battery storage was affordable!

If you are talking about Click Energy, I have just transferred to Energy Australia because Click is hopeless. Click are rip off con merchants. They can't get their billing right and admit they have problems with their billing system, Click made a mistake in every one of my quarterly invoices over the last 12 months and issued credits notes. These mistakes were always in Click's favour and I had to fight and make complaints with the Power and water Ombudsman to get these credit notes. I would never recommend Click to anyone. My advice is to stay away from Click. Now it appears Click won't transfer me.

I am in NSW and was with Origin Energy who refused me the same discounts and after the 1 year contract put me on full rate without notifying me. I used the internet and have now gone with Red Energy in Victoria (I wasn't a member of FiftyUp Club then) and am very happy with the service. My point is Karen, you can go with any energy provider Australia wide. You should investigate

In Regional QLD there is NO choice to switch suppliers. For those with Solar Panels and only receiving rebates of 9.7 cents per kwh, why is it difficult to have the normal Electric Hot Water System, heated by the Solar Panels, this would be a big saving on the bill. Everyone tells you, to get a Solar Hot Water System, they are big and heavy on the roof, lots of plumbing involved, and costs about $4000.00.

The first roundup bill i got from click was 327.00. So thats 527 a qtr. Ive never paid any more than 350 a quarter before that. 527 compared to 350 is a bit rich even considering cost increases. Somethings wrong here.
